Cool Quote - a la Congress

"What is a committee? A group of the unwilling, picked from the unfit, to do the unnecessary."

Mark Twain

This quote selection is an homage to the (ahem) deal congress stuck this week to avert financial crisis where they have agreed that a "special committee" because they think whittling down the number of people arguing and playing tug of war to 12 will guarantee a smooth process. Yeah, right!

Cool Quote

"Graduation is only a concept. In real life every day you graduate. Graduation is a process that goes on until the last day of your life. If you can grasp that, you'll make a difference."

- Arie Pencovici

I don't know who this Pencovici is. I tried searching him online and didn't find much other than this and a couple of other quotes but I truly like the sentiment in this particular quote. Of course, tomorrow 17 graduates from high school and I am in the mood for this type of thing.

One of my gifts to him is a book of quotes. I didn't buy it. I made it. Well, I made it in the sense that I bought a blank book and have spent the past year jotting down quotes that I liked. The thing is even he contributed a few quotes that he came across and liked. He knew I was collecting quotes I always have. It's something I have liked since I was a kid. When I graduated from high school my mother gave me a book similar to the one I did for 17. The fun part is that he gave me some quotes for the book and he doesn't know that its for him. He thinks its just something I was doing for me.

So, tomorrow will be a mixed emotion day. One of those that days that will be all good but emotionally draining even though its a happy occasion. I'm sure there will be more written about this later.

Cool Quotes

I discovered I always have choices and sometimes it's only a choice of attitude.
-- Judith M. Knowlton

I need to seriously work on an attitude adjustment. That's my weekend project.

Cool Quote

The supreme happiness of life is the conviction of being loved for yourself, or, more correctly, being loved in spite of yourself.

Cool Quote

What soap is to the body, laughter is to the soul.

-Yiddish proverb

That thought made me smile. So, here's a laugh to cleanse your soul...

"Whatever you give a woman, she's going to multiply. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So - if you give her any crap, you will receive a ton of shit."

Love and appreciate all the women in your life… or else!

Cool Quote

The most remarkable thing about my mother is that for thirty years she served the family nothing but leftovers. The original meal has never been found.
~Calvin Trillin

I thought that was a funny one. I've met people who say they don't eat leftovers. It's only fresh food for them. I always tell them with a laugh then you shouldn't eat at my house. To this day hubby's cousin doesn't know if I'm joking or not.

I pretty much save all leftovers. Most everything can be used again if not the same way I originally made it then chopped up and added to something else and they'll never be the wiser.

Cool Quote

If you can't feed a hundred people, then feed just one.

-Mother Teresa

Simple and to the point. It reminds us that one makes a difference and I believe that. How we treat one person at any time has an everlasting effect, like the ripples caused by a pebble thrown in the water.

It remind me of Mitch Albom's book "The Five People You Meet In Heaven". Some of the people he meets he barely remembers because they played a minor role in his life yet his action played a major role in theirs and he never knew it. It's the same lesson as in the Mother Teresa quote; every action no matter how small matters. It's not easy to live our lives that way but I think it's a good to be reminded.

Cool Quote

"Every action of our lives touches some chord that will vibrate in eternity."

-Edwin Hubbel Chapin

WOW! huh?! Think about that one for a while!

Cool Quote

I stumbled across this quote and it made me laugh out loud.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. - Robert A. Heinlein, "Lazarus Long"

That's a lot to ask for from any human being Mr. Heinlein! Let's see I can: change a diaper -check, take orders-check, give orders (so I am told)-check, cooperate (IMHO)-check, pitch manure (I'm guessing here)-check and cook a tasty meal-check. 6 out of 21. I guess I'll be here for a while if I have to complete that list. LOL! :)

Today is my brother's birthday. He's 41! Let's see what he can do off the list. He can change a diaper, balance accounts (I think), take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, I dunno about the equations and problems, pitch manure (again I'm thinking most of can do that), and cook a tasty meal for sure. Let's see he got 8 out of 21. Pretty good bro! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wish I was there or you were here!

Cool Quote

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass...It's about learning to dance in the rain!"

I don't have a source for this quote other than a friend emailed it to me but I like it!
I love quotes. Pithy little sayings that hit the spot. I hardly ever remember any and I have many books of quotes and I have tons of little scraps of paper all over the place with them jotted down. So, I'm thinking that Cool Quotes may become a regular feature on my blog and be a nice way fro me to collect them and be able to refer to them when I want.
