Is Mercury in retrograde???

It must be or some other planet necessary for my cosmic alignment is out of sync. Things have been a little nutty lately. Nothing major just lots of little things.
Wednesday nuttiness:
I drop off my prescription in the evening, they tell me it will be ready in the morning. Fine. I go back in the morning to find out that its' something special and they have to get it from .... come back in the afternoon. Bottom line, it took 2 days for me to get the friggin eye drops! I forgot my lunch, forgot the angel pin that I wear to my sons' football games, computers have not been very nice to me either. I try to do something simple at the office like make a lousy copy and the copier says OVERHEAT. Gimme a break!

Thursday nuttiness:
We hurry to the bank after work because we also have to grab some groceries before getting home. I had forgotten my checkbook so they have to look up the account so I can make my deposit which HAS to get in because it was my paycheck from last week that I hadn't been able to deposit and NEED to deposit. Fine. Get to the grocery store, they don't have the frozen garlic bread we normally buy, they don't have lean ground beef we buy substitutes. Fine. I get home and 17 is working on college applications and frustrated because he just got his SAT scores and wasn't happy with the results. The few groceries are on unloaded on the counter as he calls me over to help him with a couple of questions and talk. Now if you have kids, especially boys, or maybe its just my boy but you don't blow off a request to talk. I sat there for 40 minutes answering his questions and giving SOLICITED advice to get eye rolling, shoulder shrugging and be told that I didn't know what I was saying. So, why did he ask? (%*&(#%^&* Whatever. Fine. I try to get to my room to change my clothes and use the restroom when I get stopped at 15's door. Ma I have a cross country meet tomorrow, its all day, its at --- park, you have to get me there at 8am but I don't run until 10. The logistics of this are killer! and I won't be able to go because I can't take the entire day off of work right now if its really not an emergency, we are swamped. UGH! Fine. We'll figure it out. I finally make it to the bathroom. Ah the relief... and then MOOOOOMMMM, do you know where the recommendation letter is from Father D? Now, I ask you, is it MY letter, was it given to me? No and no. and then MOM, I need this washed for the race tomorrow. I loving yell back, Can you let me finish peeing! PULEEZE! I quickly finish up and change, tell 15 to load up the washing machine, tell 17 look on your desk it has to be there as I make my way to the kitchen to put away the groceries that have been on the counter for over an hour and get dinner started while hubby is on the phone with the insurance company because he bumped a Mercedes on the expressway on the way home that I'm sure will cost us a fortune. MOOOMMMmmm the printers not working! I stick my head in the door and say add paper. Voila! it works, imagine the ingenuity! Did you find the letter? No, you have it mom, I gave it to you. Fine. I head to his room. Scan all the surfaces including the largest one, the floor, I spot an beige envelope on the floor on top of an Economics book, pick it up and hand it to him. Gee thanks, I told you you had it. It was on the floor in your room. Oh, ah, thanks. Can you please make a copy before you send it out so we have some here. I head back to the kitchen. I see hubby walking all over the house and discover he has lost his keys as we hear MOOOOmmmm the copy is coming out red. I walk over and open the printer/copier and shake the black ink cartridge and put it back as we hear a crash, hubby opened the door to the utility closet to put a screwdriver away and well, think: Fred Flintstone's closet. I head back to the kitchen laughing because my pasta is boiling over. I don't want to say out loud, What else can happen? because my brain knows that quite a bit could actually happen and I'm not really up for it. Eventually we do sit down to dinner, figure out the logistics for the next day yadda yadda yadda.
Such a happy peaceful place, my home. I am blessed but gimme just a little more patience, please. :)

Halloween Horror

I realize you haven't been getting much from me lately. I've been really busy and I need to organize myself a little better.

So, here's just a quickie to tie you over. I went to Universal's Halloween Horror this past weekend. I had never been. My boys had both gone last year. It was a hoot. I didn't trail my boys in fact, I saw them only periodically over the entire weekend but that's another story.

I'll tell you about the Horror event itself. It's really something. They go all out. The decorations (that doesn't sound right because when I think decorations I think pretty and this was gory) were well done. They have themed haunted houses that you walk through and are decorated to represent the theme and also very well done. I went through 2. One was Vampire themed and the other Texas Chain Saw.

The vampire had assorted vampires feeding or preparing to feed on their victims. So there were people (think: villagers) in cages (think: large bird cage) and some chained to whatever, some alive, others "dead" with the vampire looming over them dripping blood. Then as you turn different corners vampires would jump out and scare the bejeebuz out of you. In the "kitchen" there were headless bodies hanging from the ceiling that you actually had to move to walk through. It was gross because the rubbery bodies felt cold an slightly slimy- GROSS!

I thought the Chain Saw one was better mainly because I don't like vampires. We walked through a house that looked like it had been destroyed by people trying to escape the Chain Saw guy. So, you can imagine. There were doors that someone (Think: granny and teenage Susy) would open and scream as they were trying to escape the path of their assailant. Then when you think its over because you are outside behind the house, there are clothes lines with white bed sheets hanging to dry that are sprayed with "blood". As you nonchalantly walk through this behind some of those sheets is the Chain Saw man who jumps at you starting up the chain saw. Not for the faint of heart. I think my scream could be heard all the way back to Miami.

As you walk around the park there are various scary characters walking amongst the crowd that walk next to you and scare you. Again the costumes and makeup are excellent.

Now, mind you none of these people can touch you. Once I knew this all was good. The only way to be scared is the surprise of people popping out of places and the yuckiness of something that looks gross or gory but obviously its all fake and you know this so its more of an Ewwww thing for me.

Overall I had a blast. There were lots of people, endless lines etc. but I'm glad i went. It is now crossed off my list to things to do before I die (I wrote it in when we decided to go so that I could cross it off since it really wasn't on THE list). Next year we will probably go back to make sure that the boys arrive alive but I think I'll spend the cash at a nice dinner at City Walk and treat myself to the Spa at the hotel which looked awesome!

Book Meme

I got this from The Mind Wobbles of course she got it from other blogs and so on. Here are the directions:
These are the top 106 books most often marked as “unread” by Library Thing's users, as of some day, we aren't sure.
Here are the instructions that I got with the meme: Bold- what you have read, italicise-what you started but couldn’t finish, strike through what you couldn't stand, Add an asterisk* - to those you’ve read more than once, Underline those on your to-read list.
Since I don't know how to underline in the blog world and since I can't seem to strike through and bold, here's what I'm going to do:

Bold- What I've read
Italicise- what I couldn't finish
*- what I read more than once
Write TBR- for those I have on my To Be Read List
Write comments for those I hated or whatever

Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell

Wuthering Heights

Pride and Prejudice* - My favorite book of all time. I have also seem many different screen version and read different incarnations and sequels to it. LOVE IT and everything about it.

Jane Eyre

A Tale of Two Cities - Don't remember it much. We did the play in 8th grade. I don't even remember what part I had just that I was in it.

The Brothers Karamazov - I can see how in it's time period this was probably very controversial and ultra topical but when I read it, it was just downright boring. I would say pass on this unless you are studying the time period or Russian lit.

Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies

War and Peace

Vanity Fair - TBR

The Time Traveler’s Wife - TBR

The Iliad

Emma

The Blind Assassin

Love in the Time of Cholera - TBR

Brave New World

The Fountainhead

Foucault’s Pendulum - TBR

Middlemarch - TBR

Frankenstein -I was pleasantly surprised that I like this. I thought it was going to be all sci-fi and yucky. It wasn't. I thought the writing was excellent. It's told as a story of a story of a story. I don't remember how many levels, 3 or 4 maybe. Very well done. I didn't loose the thread even once.

The Count of Monte Cristo - This is supposed to be really good reading and I may even own it because I think 17 may have had to read it. I need to look around for it and maybe add it to my piles if we own it.

Dracula

A Clockwork Orange

The Once and Future King

The Grapes of Wrath

The Poisonwood Bible : A Novel

1984

Angels & Demons

The Inferno

The Satanic Verses - TBR

The Aeneid

Watership Down - TBR

Gravity’s Rainbow

The Hobbit - I HATED THIS BOOK. I read it in 7th grade. I gave it another chance as an adult because it's so acclaimed. Still hated it. I can objectively appreciate the writing style but it's not my cup of tea.

In Cold Blood : A True Account of a Multiple Murder and Its Consequences - I also saw the movie. One of the few movies that did justice to the book. Both were eerie.

White Teeth - I've never even heard of this.

Treasure Island

David Copperfield

The Three Musketeers

If you participate, please let me know in my comments.

I've read 26 out of 106, that's like 25%. I'm not very impressed with that. I've marked 9 as TBR. I wonder if I can get one or 2 of those in before the end of the year.

Looking back and ahead

So what else happened this week? Hmmmm, here ya go:

* Status on reducing the double-wide.I stopped buying breakfast at Starbucks. I haven't had any ice cream. I am drinking way more water. I made Jello to have as dessert on the nights when I just need a little something else. I have had salad as a side at every single dinner. I didn't eat any french fries the 2 nights I made them this week. Yeah, me!

* I got my hair but last weekend. I forgot to tell you. It was just a trim. I have it on the short side now so that it gets curly. They are big curls. It's better that just hanging straight down.

* The manager of my GM's ALF called that they were shutting down and were trying to find her a new place but that she was refusing to go. Mind you I was updated that she had moved twice since June and not told me. Granted they were houses owned by the same owner as he was downsizing trying to hold on to a house or 2 but now they are shutting down. When I told her that I had no idea because I hadn't been able to speak to her since the beginning of the summer, she was shocked because GM had told her that we speak every week. She lied. Big surprise there.

* You know those little strips they advertise to put on your nose to stop snoring. They look like butterfly band-aids. Well, THEY WORK! If you have a snorer that wakes you up, RUN don't walk to the nearest store and buy some. You need to understand I have lots of sleep issues. I don't sleep well as it is and hubby's snoring doesn't help. He snores so loud that it jolts me awake. I try to get him to roll over but he doesn't then it takes me forever to fall asleep again and repeat cycle. I think I may have to buy stock in the company because we will be buying it in bulk. He has been wearing the strips for 3 nights and OMG if he's snoring, I don't hear him. It's a godsend! Who woulda thunk it!

* I ordered more online stuff. Some scrapbook papers and a necklace. Actually I ordered a couple because I think it would make a great Xmas gift and it was on sale. I need to start thinking about Christmas cards. I was thinking about making them this year since I'm scrapping now, I should be able to make the cards. We'll see.

Weekend plans: (in no particular order)
Visit GM, now that I know where she is and take her some of her favs: chocolate covered cherries, shortbread cookies etc.
Mail some packages to a few people.
Make some color copies of newspaper articles for the football scrapbooks.
Get my mammos grammed on Saturday.
Go to son's football game Saturday night.
Clean kid's bathroom.
Go to dinner with my culinary girlfriends on Sunday!

Have a good one everyone! TGIF!

Breakfast of champions - NOT!

Monday I had an upper GI done. I don't wish this on anyone. Here's my story.

I'm the first appt. so this should go fast and easy. That was the only good part of the adventure. After donning the lovely hospital gown in the season's new fashion colors of white with blue dots, I follow Nurse Lovely to a room and remind her like I have told the other 72 people I spoke to before that I am allergic to Sulfur. Is this going to be ok? I don't know how I react, I have been told I am allergic to it since I was a kid. Neither she nor her boss who was eavesdropping have EVER heard of anyone having a reaction to this and well, if anything happens, I am in the hospital. On that note, I am served an Alka-Selter type liquid and told to down it like a shot. It will make me gassy but I am not to burp. Right. Fine. I chug it and momentarily proceed to expel gas from the other end. She said not to burp. I didn't. What's a girl gonna do? Run out of the room?

I had to stand on a platform I barely fit on holding a Styrofoam cup of a lovely vintage of chalky barium sulfate ready to drink some when she says go so that they can photograph it going down. Oh, yeah and I had to take off my glasses and so went the sense of balance with them over to the counter with the remainder of my breakfast of champions.

As the platform I was standing on started to move to the right I let out a scream. It was more like a yelp, and grabbed on to the contraption in front of me with my free hand - that was moving too. Although I can't see Nurse Lovely, I hear her explain that she needed to line me up for the x-ray. I raise my glass and tell her no problem go ahead. She then yells DRINK. I take a swig and have to hold it in my mouth until she yells swallow. Half an eternity later she yells SWALLOW. I gladly do to get that out of my mouth. I honestly feel like a an drinking liquid chalk. After a few more shots and turn this way and that. She comes over to take the cup from me (YEAH, I'm done) and tells me the table (that's what I was standing in front of) is going to go down. She hands me a pillow and instructs me to hold it so I don't hit my head. Don't hit my head? How am I going to hit my he-plunk! oh, that's where you wanted the pillow, so I wouldn't hit my head. I get it now. Now I am laying on the table and she tells me to roll over on my stomach. I do and proceed to pass more gas-logical if you ask me. I stuff my face into the pillow. she then hand me another cup of watered down chalk with a straw and tell me that when she yells DRINK I am to start drinking this stuff continuously so that can film it's progress. And now, roll a bit to the side, and repeat, and the other side, repeat.

Sit and wait for them to review the film. I just take some deep breaths and ask for water but I can't have any yet. Fine. I'll just sit here and breathe and pray thankful that I survived and that it really be over. Nurse Lovely comes out all bubbly and says the pictures are great (don't think they'll make my scrapbook) and I can go now. I have to drink plenty of water today because otherwise this stuff will harden in my intestines and block things up. More good news. YEAH. I ask her for my glasses, tell her I'm lightheaded and may I have some juice. She comes back with a bottle of water. I touch my face to make sure the glasses are on as I stare at the bottle and repeat, May I please have some juice, I really feel lightheaded. She doesn't have any. I audibly groan and think, We are in a friggin hospital! There are no little juices?! Fine. I will just sit here and breathe. She needs me to leave to bring in the next patient. Ahh...hello...need a little help here, I don't think I can make it back to my clothes on my own. Studly Aide to the rescue. When we get to the locker room he asks if I'm ok. Ahhh, someone cares. I a bit woozy. He disappears and comes back with a Coke. I smile at him as I start chugging it. Now, I haven't had a Coke in about a year and this tastes like liquid heaven. My eyes water as Studly tells me he will be back to help me downstairs after I change. He comes back and I'm still sitting where he left me. How long was he gone? I need more time? Lady, do you need help? I look around. It's just me I guess I'm the lady. I sure don't feel like one. He opens the locker and puts my clothes on the bench and disappears again. I pick up my pants and stick one foot in. Nurse Petite comes in. She has the coldest hands on the planet and puts one on each cheek and stares into my eyes and flashes something in them. How'd she do that if she was holding my face- WOW! They are talking to me now but too fast for me to understand and there are 2 of them and only one of me. They give me a shot and lay me down. OMG! What's are they going to do now? I don't care. I fall asleep. I wake up and see my clothes on the bench so I get dressed. I feel a little lightheaded and thirsty. Studly comes in all happy to see me awake. I've never seen anyone react like that to a GI! Like what? It's like you were high or something. We gave you a shot of blah blah blah and blah blah. When he stopped blahing I told him to please tell Nurse Lovely and her boss since apparently this never happens to anyone. He laughs (he really has a pretty face too) and as we walk to the elevator he tells me, you know you asked me to marry you, then said never mind you had a husband then you told me that you'd name you firstborn after me and then said never mind you already had kids. Then apparently I suggested that he name his firstborn after me. He said all this laughing so I did too. For goodness sake I could be his mother! Well, at least I have good taste I tell him as we make our way to a coffee shop. He tells me this is one that he'll be talking about for years. GREAT. He leaves me there, feeling embarrassed but ok. I have some coffee and juice. Sit quietly and drink it all up, call my office to have someone come pick me up and spend the rest of the day a little foggy but ok.
I survived and now I know what my allergy to Sulfur is like. Gimme patience.

What Ice Cream are you?

You Are Rocky Road Ice Cream

Unpredictable and wild, you know how to have fun.

You're also a trendsetter who takes risks with new things.

You know about the latest and greatest - and may have invented it!

You are most compatible with vanilla ice cream.

Does it beat all that Rocky Road is my all time favorite ice cream flavor. When I was a kid they actually made it with mini marshmallows. Now, I only find it with marshmallow cream which is tooo sweet!

Week in review

Here's a look back and things that happened that I haven't mentioned...

* One of the things I decided after the trip was to seriously trim down this double wide body of mine. I'm no radical here. I didn't run out and join a gym or buy any exercise equipment. Why, you may ask. Quite frankly because I've done those things before and failed miserably each time. Now you need to understand I have done every diet there is. I have the knowledge, I know how to loose weight. It's quite simple: take in less calories than you burn. The problem here is will power. So, I decided. I'm gonna do it. I'll start slow, making simple lifestyle changes. First, let's start drinking the water I'm supposed to be drinking. Sounds easy enough. I can do that. Second, stop going to Starbucks and getting a latte and a donut for breakfast. Just have coffee in the office. Again, easy. Bonus here is I'll save $ too. I can do this. SO, Tuesday when hubby goes to the grocery store to buy Milk and cold cuts for the kids. I tell him bring home a surprise, something good. I do this all the time and he usually brings me back whatever veggie or fruit is on sale. A few weeks ago he brought back a beautiful eggplant and more recently a pack of zucchini- delish! So, he came home all excited. Look, I brought home something yummy and he pulls out a quart of Hagen Das Butter Pecan ice cream. We can eat it while we watch TV later! - I guess we're keeping the double wide this week!

* 15 got a brochure from Northwestern University. He got himself on their mailing list because he fell in love with the school 2 years ago when we visited Chicago and he wants to study Journalism and Broadcasting and found out they were famous for it. The kicker here isn't that he GOT the brochure, 17 gets tons of them. The kicker is he read it from cover to cover, he came out of his room explaining to us out of touch parents that he could double major, that they have work internships with out local newspapers, that they have mentor programs etc. I just sat there dumbfounded at the table while he told me all about it. I have a child who is researching, interested in and motivated all by himself to going to college. WOW! I just took in the moment and sent up a little prayer to raise his grades so that he actually have a shot at getting into the school.

* The vacuum cleaner died. It just stopped in mid-vacuum. There is only carpeting in one room but I have, I mean had one of those floor/carpet vacuums and instead of sweeping and having to pick up the dust, I vacuum the floor. I had to sweep this week- oh the agony!

* I have been ordering things online and all the boxes have been coming in. I've ordered scrapbook supplies and clothes. There was a reason I didn't order clothes online before, now I have to return half of it. It didn't fit right or I didn't like the color- it didn't look that bright on the computer. Returning the stuff is a pain in the butt!

*We have a football game tonight and we supposed to beat the pants off of this team. With any luck 17 should play well and make some fabulous plays and have something for the highlight film he has to make for Furman U. My in-laws are coming to my house so that we can drive them to the game. It should be fun.

*I balanced my checkbook. This may be normal and customary for your checkbook but for mine it was a treat. I have never spent so much time with it. I actually discovered that I had too much money. Can that be for real? But then I realized that I owed someone some $ that I hadn't paid them and poof! there it went. Ahhh, there's the low balance I know and love. The world is right again.

*I have been trying to post on blogs that I read and not be a lurker. I'm not good at that and want to do better. I will keep working on this.

So that was my week. The weekend is pretty packed but if I tell you about that now, then what will I blog about on Monday? So, I will keep you in suspense. HINT: There is a pile on the floor in front of a machine.

Things I learned...

Things I learned on my weekend trip...

* I LOVE to travel. Ok, I didn't learn that cuz I already knew that. I love everything about travelling. The packing, the plane, the car rental, the hotel, driving around looking for places to eat, seeing what your gonna see. ALL OF IT! I need to travel more!

* I need to loose weight. Ok, I didn't learn that either, I knew that. I mean I know I'm heavy. Fine. I'll say it. I'm fat- very fat. But OMG! the bathroom in my hotel had a mirror on the back of the door. Not a good place because you see yourself sitting on the toilet- not very flattering. And OMG! I'm enormous! Again, I know I'm fat, I realize what size clothes I'm buying. But that mirror made me realize we need to put a stop to this. Enough already.

* I wish I was the one going to college and not my son. Ok, I didn't learn that either. I knew that. That thought comes up every time a brochure comes to the house which is daily. Ahh, youth is wasted on the young!

* I miss the 4 Seasons. Ok, I didn't learn that either. I've been saying it for years. I'm a transplant here in Miami and I miss the weather changes, the changing of leaves, the snow, the fireplaces, sweaters, hot cocoa, Indian summers. Even though I have now been in Miami more than half my life, it still feels like something is missing. It feels like one looong a$$ summer!

* My son needs a scholarship or he's going to a state school. Ok, technically, I didn't learn that either. We've been looking at colleges for a while and DANG if they aren't expensive. Honestly, 40k a year! and you are supposed to go for 4 years! Thank goodness for the Florida Prepaid plan that fixed the tuition for the state universities.

* It's nice having one on one time with 17. Fine, so I knew that too. We all had a good time. We had some good laughs and some good talks. I think we made some nice memories for him of just the 3 of together enjoying ourselves. We met up with another family and had a nice time with them too. We all exchanged funny travel stories. I bothered her son, she bothered mine- all good-natured fun. Many Kodak moments. A lot of togetherness, fun and silliness before he goes away. The irony is not lost on me.

OK, already! I didn't really learn much this weekend. But all of that came to a head in less than a 24 hour period. So, it was little brain overload there with all those different emotions coming together. This whole college thing is exciting and nerve racking and I'm not the one going. Well, what will be will be....

Was it a long weekend?

It sure felt like it. Friday was 17's homecoming dance, we packed, we washed, we were up at 5am to catch an 8:30 flight to Charlotte, NC, to rent a car, to drive 2 hours to Greenville, SC, to get to Furman University, to watch a video of the school, listen to the coaches, get a quick walking tour, eat dinner there, to go to the football warm-ups before the game, watch the game, go down field after the game, talk with players, talk with coaches, then go to a local sports bar to munch and watch the Gators game, to head back to the hotel for a few winks to get up at 8am for the hotel buffet breakfast and 2 hour drive back to Charlotte and flight back to Miami, to wash clothes and have dinner and crash onto my pillow.
Lots more to come about all of this. It was a great weekend jam packed but I'm tired.

Still no light...

I'm ready to trade in the car. Fine. I won't. Really, it's only a light but it has caused a lot of unrest.

Originally, I went and bought the light bulb to change it. Then bulbs because we thought it might be all three that are in the unit. Then I was told it wasn't the bulbs but the unit that we are plugging it into. (Enter dad, with $50 part) 17 and I took it all apart and undid and redid and undid again and swapped out bulbs and redid, still no turn signal! We had break lights but no turn signal. Apparently, the break light part was the bulb!

Now, we (son & I) aren't geniuses but we are relatively intelligent people so we take it all apart again and start fiddling here and there. Studying this and that. Compare our to the junk yard one. AHA! The actual connector piece that plugs this thing into the car looks faulty. It has a number of little plugs in it and two of them look -dirty/rusty/blown out- (insert what you think may be appropriate there according to your level of expertise). Clearly, this is beyond us and this connector is actually wired into the car. We have resigned ourselves to the fact that we are going to have to take it to a dealer.

So, today's mission, find a dealer with hours that we can handle and get an appt. to fix the car turn signal.

Evidently, there is proof that 17 is my child, I can't deny him. As we closed the trunk of the car he said, "Of course, it would always be easier to buy a new car!" LOL! Gimme Patience.

Car light

It seems that I have an electrical field around me that does something to car lights. I've had a number of cars over the years and they have all had light issues of some sort.

One car the light that lit up all the stuff on the dashboard kept going out. I fixed it once then learned to live without it at $95 a pop. Later a van lost it's inside overhead light and I promise you that I kept going back my local auto parts to buy the bulb and they were always 'just out'. This lasted forever, to the point that there was a flashlight in the car to read maps and things at night.

My current car, a Pontiac Grand Am, which we bought to give to 17 eventually, I have already changed the bulb on the 2 front lights and now the back light went out. So, I'm a pro at this by now, I'll just change the bulb. HA! that would have been easy. It wasn't the bulb. So, when I took it for the oil change a few weeks ago at my local Goodyear, I have them check it. He said it was the entire electrical panel for the rear light. The part has to ordered from the dealer directly. He's said it would cost a pretty penny, so he actually showed me (I can use a screwdriver!) how to change it to save some $$. Nice! Have you ever met a mechanic who did that! I love those guys!

So, did YOU order the part? Hubby said he'd take care of it since he's out and about driving most of the day. Well, 17 got a ticket over the weekend for , you guessed it, no rear light. I haven't asked how much the ticket was because I don't want to know. So, I call a dealer, they will charge me $330 to change it! When I tell him no, I only want the part, it's $180! - for a light! So, I call my dad, who finagles things. I give him the VIN # and yesterday he shows up with an entire light, electrical panel and outer parts for $50. He found it at a junk yard. Way to go DAD! So, tonight's adventure, to change the light on the car because 17 has a formal dance tomorrow and it would be uncool to get pulled over again with a date all dressed up for the dance.
Wish me luck!

Thank you.

As any parent will know, parenting is a 24/7 job and no one thanks you for it. Sure you get satisfaction from seeing the merits of your toil when they finally make to the toilet after months of potty training you want to dance a jig. There are gajilllions of moments like that.

But last week after dinner one night the boys and I sat at the dinner table talking about stuff. All kinds of stuff. One of those great talks that's about nothing and yet means so much. We talked about school, teachers, my work, the dog, upcoming parties, friends, the car, even painting the house. I am telling you we talked about everything. In the middle of it while we were talking about things that were happening at school, 15 stopped and put his hand on my shoulder and said "oh, yeah and I want to thank you for making us normal." Now, isn't that about the sweetest thing you have ever heard!? Of course, being me, I couldn't just let it drop there. I had to ask what do you mean and that when the conversation turned to friends and things that were going on with them etc. and both my boys said that they have me to thank for making them normal. I got all misty and just said well, "your welcome I'm just glad that you are able to appreciate it now and didn't have to wait until you have kids." which was how long it took me to appreciate MY parents. The conversation quickly moved on to other things but I just need to perpetuate the moment so I can read it when I need it.

We Interrupt This Family for Football Season

That's what the sign says on my front door. Honest. I'm sure you've heard of 'Monday Night widows' because the husbands all watch football. Well, at my house they took this idea and ran with it.

There's Sunday football, Sunday night football, Monday night football, Thursday night football - that's when the Pros play. Then there's Saturday for college football and there's high school football which can be either wed/thurs/fri/sat. It varies from week to week. That's just when we WATCH actual football games.

17 is a Senior of the Varsity football team and we are very involved with the high school. Translation...football has creeped into every other day of the week too. Hubby keeps the books for the QB Club which is like the parent's booster club for the football program. He's been doing that for 2 years. I help out in other ways from organizing the weekly team meals to stocking the concession stand for home games and ensuring that parents of all 3 teams are up to date on the latest happenings. I am also holding weekly (Tuesday- the only day of the week not previously mentioned) gatherings at my house to make a scrapbook for each of the graduating seniors (there are 26 this year) and we also made banners with their name and number on them and they are hanging in the cafeteria for the season and each will keep it at the end of the season as a keepsake with their scrapbook. It's really oodles of fun. We had a blast making the banners this week. It took 10 women hours and hours of prep work and then hours at my house to put it all together but they came out really nice! It's fun doing stuff for the boys and I'm making good friends with the parents to boot.

On top of all this, I am now learning about Cross Country running. 15 has had 2 meets already. On, you guessed it, Tuesdays after school. He was not happy with his performance the first meet. I on the other hand was in tears watching him strain to the finish line. I am so impressed with him. He beat his own time, the second meet. So, he was a little happier but according to him he's got a long way to go. He only started training this summer and started at over 30 minutes to run 2 miles. Tuesday he ran 5k in 22.43 - frickin amazing, if you ask me but I'm mom and we all know that means I don't know squat. So, I'm meeting more parents and got on another email list to get involved with that team too.

The thing is work just keeps getting in the way of all these other things I want to do but somehow I guess I'll muddle through. It's going to be a long year and at the same time it will be over in a minute. I mean they just started yesterday and 17 will be graduating in the Spring. How did THAT happen?

What Color Green Are You?

Don't you love these little internet quiz thingys? They're so much fun. So full of useless information. What color green am I? I mean really what kind of question is that? That's why I just HAD to find out. So, here you are. Apparently, I'm Olive Green, which is a shade I happen to like. So, I guess that's good.

You Are Olive Green

You are the most real of all the green shades. You're always true to yourself.
For you, authenticity and honesty are very important... both in others and yourself.
You are grounded and secure. It takes a lot to shake you.
People see you as dependable, probably the most dependable person they know.

Told you I'm busy

As I am heating my lunch I started writing a list of things to do this weekend on my pad here and I started a 2nd column. So, I counted the lines there are 28 lines. As of right now I have 46 things to do not including laundry and groceries. Are we having fun yet! Apparently. Gimme patience!

Computers

I don't consider myself very computer literate. I mean I'm past the Dr. Seuss level but not up to the great american novel level. I think I got stuck somewhere in the Nancy Drew phase and haven't been able to figure out the mystery, just to continue with the metaphor.

Anyway, we have a desktop at home. It's seen better days but its perfectly good. We also have 2 laptops. 17's is 2 years old and already got I guess a virus or a worm or whatever because the internet shuts down when it wants and other funky things. 14 just got his, its less than a month old. I have a router connected so that the boys can roam the house and have a wireless connection. I have had lots of help from friends along the way and still do every time I get something new. It's just so confusing to me. The RAM, the Gigs, the names of all the processors, yadda yadda. Then how to protect it all from the virus' and worms and I don't know what else. It's just all soooo confusing.
I'm just venting here because last night the desktop was working in super slo mo and I presume because I haven't run a scan in I don't' know when and it needs updates and it all just takes so long to do and I really don't want to sit there and do it but I guess I have to add it to my list of things to do for this weekend.
So, this was probably the most boring post in the world because its just me kvetching. That's for your patience and wish me luck.

Gosh!

I knew I was behind in the blogging but I didn't realize I was THAT far behind. Since Aug. 30th! Whew! I know I've been busy but that's no excuse for such a long absence. Soon my adoring fans will give up and forget me. HA! I made a funny! Adoring fans...get it? As if!

It was my dad's Bday on the 3rd, my MIL was operated a week ago, I am working volunteering with my kids high school with all sorts of back-to-school meetings that were happening and with the QB Club. I actually ended up kinda running the QB Club and now we are meeting at my house every Tuesday, this past Tuesday being the first one, to work on a scrapbook for the graduating seniors, make banners that hang in the cafeteria, order the food for the weekly meals, coordinate people to work the concession stand for home games and whatever else coach needs parents to do. Its 17's Senior year so the list of things to do is endless from college stuff, to school activities. 14 had his first cross-country meet this past Tuesday (yes, same day as scrap mtg.). So, ya know things have been a little busy and all of this is happening with 17 and I sharing the car. It's been a little hectic - what can I say. But they only do this once and then its over before I know it so onward and upward or as the high school's motto is - Adelante!

So, let me pause here and just take a deep breath and ask the good Lord above for patience and energy to get it all done and enjoy the school year ahead and to blog about it along the way ;)

Bye Abuelita

My husband's grandmother passed away last week. She was 93. A good long life. She went to sleep and just didn't wake up. A beautiful way to go, if you ask me. Peaceful, with out suffering or long hospital stays etc.

I remember when she came from Cuba for her visit that turned permanent in 1985. The entire clan went to greet her at the airport and then we all went to my in-laws house. We had champagne to celebrate the visit, she hadn't seen her daughter (my MIL) in 23 years. It was quite a reunion. I remember running out at 11:30 at night looking for an open super market to buy pears. That's right, the fruit. She hadn't had a fresh pear in she couldn't remember how long. My then boyfriend (now hubby) and I drove all over until we found a 24 hour grocery and came back with a dozen pears. Yeah, we went a little over the top. So, we all had pears and champagne. It was very festive.

In Cuba she left her sister and her son's 2 grandchildren, in their mid 20's by then. And here she lived with her daughter, close to her son and met her daughter's 2 grandchildren who she had only seen in a handful of pictures that she had been sent over the years. She walked in my wedding, she handmade a special wrap that both of my children used when they were born to go home from the hospital. I later sent it to Cuba so that the great-grandchildren there could use it too. When they finally came to the States, they brought it back and my sister-in-law used it too. All of her great-grand children used the same wrap. She helped care for my kids when they were newborn and many times cooked extra food and packed it up for me to take home and have a night off from the kitchen. For my birthday she would make Arroz con Leche, my favorite Cuban dessert and for my hubby she would make Natilla. She was a quiet Cuban woman not fitting the loud busybody sterotype. She was always there helping in little ways.

As her sight began to fail she fell and broke her hip a few years back and she was never the same. She wanted to be at the family gathering but be left alone. All the commotion and noise bothered her and she wanted up to be there but quiet. Well, we all gathered this weekend Abuelita and we quietly prayed and reminisced about you. Rest in peace abuelita. You are missed.

17 and still needs his mommy

I have always been told that I'm tough on my kids. Maybe I am but as we all know they didn't come with directions so like most I'm winging this parenthood and raising kids thing. Every age has its blessed moments and its I'm going to pull every hair out of my head moments. And I mean every age.

There's a saying in Spanish that my mother-in-law always says, "esta en la edad de la peseta" which I can't really translate. I guess it means something like "he's at that bothersome age". Anyway, she's been telling me that since 17 was 17 MONTHS old and now he's 17 YEARS old. So, when does it end. Technically, in a few months (November) he will 18 and as far as society rules go, I'm done. He's an adult. Now, 17 is a wonderful person I don't want this to come across like he's the devil incarnate. But he knows how to push the envelope (don't wonder, he got that from me). He's more anal retentive than I am but he knows how to have a good time too. But he's an all or nothing kind of person. There's no middle ground. He is going to do things HIS way. This was apparent when early on he decided that the proper way to get around was to crawl backwards (we tried to no avail to make him go forwards). He was lighting quick but backwards. We used to laugh then and say that I hope this isn't a sign of things to come otherwise he'll have a hard life. I can safely say that he doesn't do things backwards anymore but he does many times choose the hard way.

We tend to fight a lot. He and I lock horns because we are much a like. He is me. It's tiring arguing and fighting with 'yourself' for 17 years. I'm tired. Over this summer as he prepared to start his Senior year and apply to college and move into another phase of his life we have continued to lock horns. At one point I was frustrated and sat down with him and asked if he wanted me to back off. I mean really, I was tired of pushing and ya know it's his life. Well, being the smarty that he is he said yes, just back off, I'll do it in my time. Fine. fine. FINE. We each went our merry way and I was having a more pleasant summer- less stressful. Then like a week later he tells me "Hey mom, remember when we agreed that you should back off?" Yes, I tell him, the voice inside my head thinking he's going to tell me he did the essays, filled out the applications and they are about ready to mail in, getting all excited and jumping up and down in my head. "well, I think you need to push again." Thud! goes the little me that was jumping in my head. Why, I ask. "Well, I think I need the reminding, I will probably do it in my own time anyway but I need you to push and remind me. You're good at that." Well, at least we know I'm good for something. I'm good at *itching and moaning and nagging and being ignored. Fabulous! Can't wait to add it to my resume! Gimme Patience!

Seen any good movies lately?

I haven't seen much lately. We watch lots of movies and are members of Netflix which I LOVE! I just Love those little red envelopes. I and everyone else in the family has been trained to get excited when they see one of those red envelopes in the mail. What'd we get? Now, mind you I am the one who "runs" the queue in Netflix and even I get excited and rip open the envelope to see what's there with the same anticipation one gets checking their lotto ticket and the first 3 numbers match. Then I go through the same bubble burst when the next number doesn't match and the movie is really one that the kids want to see not me. Talk about Pavlovian response!
That's been happening lately since it was you know, summer and the kids had days off to watch movies. The most recent movie we got (no lie) was Scarface. Yes, Tony Montana's Scarface. Is there another one? Please. Wait. Don't go. Let me explain. A while back when the family was talking about Al Pacino because he was getting some lifetime award we discovered that 17 hasn't seen Scarface. Now, how 15 saw it and 17 hasn't well, I just don't know. He's seen clips. I mean the entire free world has seen clips but he'd never seen the entire movie. So, we thought this needed to be remedied. I mean there are so many references to it in pop culture. It's one of those classics that everybody knows. The boy needs a well rounded education. Don't you think? So, we moved it to the top and the boys saw Scarface.

Docs dont' know nuthin!

All that schoolin' and they don't know squat (can you tell I'm a little frustrated). It's just a best guess like it's all a game. ARGghhhh.

I say I'm perimenopausal or maybe I'm having thyroid issues or maybe sugar level issues or maybe a combination of things like anemia and something else. Well, I didn't say I knew what it was but it's something and the doc doesn't know either.

I've got all the typical perimenopausal symptoms. I mean all of them but those are also very similar to many other things. So, anyway I go to the doctor for the results on my blood work where I am hoping he tells my its yadda yadda (read: something totally common and simple and normal) and avoid eating yadda yadda (read: something that will help me loose weight) and take this pill every morning and you'll be fine. But Noooooo. MY doctor isn't that accommodating. He wishes all his patients had my numbers. Well, la di frickin da! That didn't help me. Nothing to explain the sundry of symptoms that I have. Nothing even borderline. So, now more tests to mega check my thyroid and other stuff. ARGghhhhh!

My dream visit to the doctor would be á la Star Trek. Remember Bones, the doctor. He had a wand that I remember as looking like the metal detectors wands they use at the airports now. Anyway, the patient would be laying in the sick bay and he'd wave the wand over his body from head to toe and badabing! he would know what was wrong with him. Wouldn't that be wonderful! Ahh, but alas we get to be poked and prodded and sometimes all for naught because they don't know and want to keep poking and prodding. Oh, well. I guess that what we got.

Bones, Where are you when I need you!? Ahhhh, gimme patience.

Lost $$

You know that feeling you have when you reach into your wallet and your short on cash. Well that would be constantly but I mean short as in you thought you had a $20 and in fact you have a $10 not just that you wish you had more $.

Well, that happened to me this weekend. Now I'm not a math wiz but here's what happened. I had theater and dinner plans for Sunday that were all going to be paid for cash and so being the planner that I can sometimes be I went to the bank on Friday and took out $100 bucks for my weekend extravaganza of entertainment. Mind you I already had $34 in my wallet so I can do this math (100+34) now I've got $134. Woo hoo, for a girl who doesn't carry much cash that's a million bucks. I had to pay back someone for the theater ticket ($25) and have cash for dinner. The dinner was a super ritzy place that we were going to because they are part of a program offering limited menu at a fixed price with the intention of getting people (like moi) who can't normally afford the place to come out and try and then maybe we'll repeat (when we hit the lotto). So, dinner was to be $35 plus drinks and wine. Are you still with me? 25+35+drinks+wine= $100 and I have $134. I have extra, no problem. I was perfectly prepared to splurge and spend this on little ole me all in one day and have a fantabulous time.

Friday night, 17 needs $ for the movies and whatever. Fine. I have extra, remember, I give him $20. Saturday goes by running around doing groceries, getting school uniforms, taking kids to get haircuts for the first day of school and even driving thru for lunch. All paid for with plastic. yes, even the drive-thru. Thank you very much. I'm still good. Got all my money saved for me on Sunday(read in sing songy voice)...looking forward to it....working on my scrapbooks...thinking about tomorrow...gonna have a great time....(stop sing songy stuff).

Sunday is here. Make the usual waffles for the gang. Work on a scrapbook page that I was too tired to finish last night. Go take a shower and hubby drops me off at girlfriends house to go to theater. Once we are all ready to go, she's writing a check for the theater ticket, I tell her I've got cash. So, I open my wallet to separate it. Counting out the cash I have $70. Woah! What happened I had extra money! Now, I'm short! Where is it. I start looking thru all the nooks and crannies in my purse and wallet. I find coupons, receipts and business cards - no cash. I don't understand. I've counted the cash 3 times and its still only $70, apparently it doesn't increase by she upon recounting it. What to do?! OK, I have a check on me. I can write a check for the theater ticket. That leaves me with the $70 for dinner, if I don't have a cocktail I should be fine for dinner and wine. But where's the $30. I gave 17 $20 not more than that. I didn't pay for any of the errands on Sat. Friends hubby is trying to help me with the math he knows I'm not the best but even when he does it doesn't add up. I will have to deal with it later. Did one of the boys take $ without telling me? It would be a first. Maybe the $ I gave 17 was more than one bill stuck together, I'll ask him later. Friend now takes some extra cash because she's wonderful that way, to be sure that we are not short in our adventures of the day.

The theater was a hoot. It was a musical and a friend of our was in it. It was called "Tomfoolery" if you've never seen it and its playing near you run to buy a ticket. I need to see it again because I laughed so much that I know I couldn't hear it all. Too too funny! I forgot to give my other girlfriend the check to pay her back for the ticket. Oh, well. We have plenty of time before our dinner reservation so we go hang out at the local independent book store which we both LOVE. We sit and split an appetizer because we are both starving and neither of us had lunch before the theater. So, this will hold us till dinner 3 hours from now. Dinner was great. Good friends at a beautiful restaurant with good service and good food. The dessert was PHFft but the rest was good. A lovely time was had by all. My good friend had to fork out a little more $ to cover the valet- I told you it was a ritzy place- but what are friends for.

Got home told hubby about my outings. He had a grand time at home doing nothing. I mean NOTHING! He watched the golf tournament all day - that's it. Fine. Good for him. We each had our good time in our own way. Went to bed.

Woke up! Sat straight up in bed and yelled "Oh, thank goodness!" Hubby snored a little louder and shifted in bed as I looked over him at the clock. It was 2:35. I took a deep breath and thought well, at least I found the missing $. In my outings on Saturday although I didn't pay cash for any of the boys things. I did stop in a Scrapbook store and bought some very necessary pages and embellishments that I honestly really really needed. That I paid cash for because remember I had extra but I guess I forgot I had given my extra to my son and so now I was short. So, let's review the math shall we: extra$ minus $for son minus $for scrap supplies equals short for theater and dinner. Oh well it was pretty paper.

9 WORDS WOMEN USE

There is nothing going on that you (or me) are interest in. Things are just plain boring right now. So, I am stealing this from an email I got from a friend for your entertainment.

9 WORDS WOMEN USE

1. Fine: This is the word women use to end an argument when they are right and you need to shut up.
2. Five Minutes : If she is getting dressed, this means half an hour. Five minutes is only five minutes if you have just been given five more minutes to watch the game before helping around the house.
3. Nothing: This is the calm before the storm. This means something, and you should be on your toes. Arguments that begin with nothing usually end in fine.
4. Go Ahead: This is a dare, not permission. Don't Do It!
5. Loud Sigh: This is actually a word, but is a non-verbal statement often misunderstood by men. A loud sigh means she thinks you are an idiot and wonders why she is wasting her time standing here and arguing with you about nothing. (Refer back to #3 for the meaning of nothing.)
6. That's Okay: This is one of the most dangerous statements a women can make to a man. That's okay means she wants to think long and hard before deciding how and when you will pay for your mistake.
7. Thanks: A woman is thanking you, do not question, or faint. Just say you're welcome. 8. Whatever: Is a women's way of saying F@! YOU!
9. Don't worry about it, I got it : Another dangerous statement, meaning this is something that a woman has told a man to do several times, but is now doing it herself. This will later result in a man asking 'What's wrong?' For the woman's response refer to #3.

I thought this was clever and funny. Enjoy your weekend. Mine will be stressed full of getting my boys ready for back to school. Sunday will be nice a play with friends and dinner with others. I'll tell you ALL about it later. Plus tonight I will finish my book...hmmm what shall I read next...

I finished The Darcy Spirit

It was lovely. Nicely written in the vein of Austen referring to characters we know and love and continuing the story with the next generation. I think I can summarize the plot by saying it is a complete adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The names have changes but then are related to the original characters. The places have changed but not so much, we're in Rosings, Bath and London. The same personality faults are inherited, displayed and overcome and everyone of course lives happily ever after. If you need some of that and loved Pride and Prejudice then this is for you.

I just started The Thirteenth Tale. I'm on page 37 and am hooked. Some of the lines make me stop and read them twice. Here's one that I liked: "I shivered on the stairs, yawned and stretched. Returning to myself, I found that my thoughts had been rearranged in my absence."
Don't you LOVE that! ...my thoughts had been rearranged in my absence...

There are other lines but I can't find them now but suffice it to say that I'm enjoying it.

Reviews

This weekend we watched "Flightplan" with Jodie Foster. She's just plain brilliant but I can't think of a role she wasn't good in. I mean how much of a story can you have if the whole movie is on a plane. Fine. yes, there are few scenes in the apartment before we board the plan and at the airport after landing but for real the whole movie is on a plane. How much can happen? How fascinating can it be? She didn't have much to work with-story, characters etc.- but she is the only reason to watch this movie. Hubby predicted it in the first 10 minutes and I said no way, that's too easy. I kept coming up with something else more complicated and convoluted. These writers were simple. Hubby nailed it. If you can see it for free go ahead but don't spend a lot of money on it or make any special plans.

We also watched the first episode of the TNT miniseries "The Company" with oh, i forgot their names already. Anyway, it was really good. If you like spy stuff, intrigue, espionage and twisty plots be sure to catch a replay of the first episode so you can catch up. It was also nice that the first hour was commercial-free. Granted the second hour made up for it but hey, the first one was uninterrupted.

Now, by uninterrupted I mean they did not stop the action to sell something. They did however sell things right on top of what we were viewing. Am I the only person this bothers? Have I mentioned this before? I just hate it when messages pop up on the bottom of the screen telling me what show is Coming Next or Tomorrow or even what channel I am watching. I hate it when characters from other shows come traipsing across the bottom of the screen unveiling the name and viewing time for their show. FOR PETE'S SAKE LET. ME. SEE. THIS SHOW IN. PEACE! I KNOW what channel I am watching I put it on. Tell me what's on next when this is over. If figure out tomorrow tomorrow! It really bothers me. The director of the show I am watching surely didn't imagine Saving Grace popping up across the bottom or The Closer coming on screen with a flashlight in her hand. At one point it even covered over some subtitles because they were talking in German. UGH! Of course then I suppose about every time a normal commercial spot was supposed to come in a message would pop up telling us that Thanks to Chrysler this was commercial-free. Gee Thanks, get off the screen and lemme watch the show!
It doesn't bother hubby and 17 who were watching it with me except for all my grumbling about it. Apparently, THAT gets on their nerves not pop-up advertising on TV.

Yes, another meme

Just when you thought you were memed out! I warned you, I told you I was behind. This one is from Cup O'Books. I am to list 5 Random Things although it was spun to be about books and procrastination. Let's see...

1. Even though I am only listing one book in progress at a time over there on the sidebar there are usually at least 3 going at the same time. Sometimes a book is too big for my purse and I need to have one with me like ALL the time cuz you never know when you'll have 5 minutes to read and so the bigger book would be the nightstand book. I also usually have one at work that lives there and I read on lunch hour etc.

2. I'm not a finisher. I tend to start lots of projects and finish few. Once I put something down and move on to something else laziness takes over and stands between me a project one (or 32, whatever) and it takes a lot to push me back to it.

3. I am a hopeless romantic. Its my favorite genre in reading. I want everyone to be happy, get along, be in love and live happily ever after. I really really do!

4. In my lifetime I have lost hundreds of pounds. Ive read all the diets, know how to do them just don't have the motivation to stick with them and keep finding all those lost pounds and apparently some that others lost along the way too. ;)

5. I have decided to take the necessary steps to graduate from community college with my AA. I enrolled there in 1983 and still haven't graduated. I have fulfilled all of the class requirements and simply need to take a test. Next Friday I am signing up for the test. If I pass, I'm done. The object here is to graduate before 17 graduates from high school in the spring. Do you see the not finishing trend here. Anyway, I had decided, I told others and now it's out in writing n the net. I'm thinking I really need to do this now.

I won't tag anyone in particular but again if you want to share some of your randomness, please do so and TGIF!

Birthday MEME

I was also tagged for this meme by the mind wobbles. (how do I so easily loose control of my fonts??? i dunno)

We are supposed to look up our date of birth on Wikipedia and find 3 events, 2 births and 1 holiday that happened on that date.

My birthday is June 14th.

Events:
1777 - Stars and Stripes adopted by Congress as the Flag of the United States.
1900 - Hawaii becomes a United States territory.
1954 - U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signs a bill into law that places the words "under God" to the United States' Pledge of Allegiance.

Births:
1946 - Donald Trump, American businessman
1961 - Boy George, British singer (Culture Club)
1909 - Burl Ives, American musician (d. 1995)
1811 - Harriet Beecher Stowe, American author (d. 1896)

Yes, I can count. I realize that's 4 and I'm only supposed to list 3 but I just thought they were interesting names and I never would have pegged these four people to all be Gemini like me, would you?

Holiday:
Since I already knew and if I know then everyone should know that it's Flag Day. I looked for something else.
International Weblogger's Day – Celebration of the work of webloggers around the world

Now, there are other instructions cut, paste a list, delete, add a name yadda yadda but I'm going to be rebellious and not do them. So there! But the meme was fun. Most of you have probably already done it and if you did I probably read it. But if you didn't and ya wanna g'ahead and consider yourself tagged.

Memetime - The Joy that is...

There are lots of Memes (can I make that plural? it sounds weird) that I haven't done and need to get to. I've been tagged for a few that I haven't done. I've commented on blogs that I'll do it soon to just stay tuned and because (insert witty reason here) well, simply I haven't done them. So, I am committing to doing all the memes that I said I would do but not all today mind you. But I will.

So I will start with one from Pheasantly Fascinating because his was on my birthday, over a month ago and it seems simple. (did you see how my font just changed? why? idunno!)

The Joy that is ....these aren't in any particular order other than popped into my head in this order...

10. Sticking you hand in your pocket and finding money. Doesn't matter how much, a twenty or just one dollar bill; it's fun!

9. Clear skies. Day/night it doesn't matter to me just seeing that clear blue sky or the cloudless dark night. Pretty, calming, I like it.

8. Hugs. I like hugs. I don't think I'm too picky about these either they can be from my kids, hubby, other family and friends. I'd have to go waaaay back to find a hug I didn't like. Mostly I guess because now I choose who I'm around.

7. Cooking. OK, this one needs a caveat. I hate the have to throw a meal together quick because we're all hungry and have things to do and just need to eat for sustenance sake. But I LOVE spending the day/week/whatever planning the menu, looking for recipes, shopping for the fresh ingredients, cooking it all up and watching everyone enjoy it.

6. Dunkin Donuts coffee. I just loves my dunkin coffee. I had lots of it on the car trip we just did. YUMMMmmm.

5. Mail. Not junk mail, not bills but mail meant for me. Cards, catalogs, letters. Yep. a catalog with a cup of dunkin coffee..life is good.

4. Laughing. If you know me, you know I laugh loud often to tears sometimes loosing y ability to swallow and breath properly. But it feels so good to laugh and laughing with someone even better.

3. Reading. I like reading magazines, books and now blogs too. Time just evaporates when I'm reading. I get so caught up in it and travel to where ever I am reading about. I honestly sometimes feel like I've lived a thousand years through books.

2. People. I am a people person. I like being with people even annoying people (for short period of time) because later I will laugh about it (see #4). Everyone is interesting, everyone teaches me something, even if it's what not to do or say. That's not to say I don't get tired of some people and then I'll simply let them go and find another. There are lots of people out there so I have no shortage.

1. Finishing things. I like finishing things, it's empowering to think "I did that". Now, this is a problem for Gemini because we tend to start lots of things and finish few. Maybe that's why I like it so much when I finish something...

I did it! I finished the meme....I won't specifically tag anyone but it's your turn if ya wanna...
